PhenEx Roadmap

Welcome to the PhenEx Roadmap! This page outlines our upcoming features and enhancements, providing you with a timeline for what to expect in future releases. We are committed to continuously improving PhenEx to better serve the research community.

Planned Features

Cohort Code Lists

Description: Export all codelists used in a cohort, rather than on a phenotype-by phenotype level. This increases reproducibility of studies, as all codes used are logged.

Timeline: Q1 2025

Multi-Index date support

Description: currently we only support single index dates for cohorts, and test inclusion/exclusion criteria for only one index date. We plan to support multi-index dates and final index date selection methods.

Timeline: Q2 2025

Code Frequency Readouts

Description: Users will be able to click on a value to filter the view based on code frequency. This feature aims to provide more interactive data exploration.

Timeline: Q2 2025

Multithreading in Cohort Execution

Description: Enable multithreading capabilities during cohort execution to enhance performance and reduce processing time.

Timeline: Q2 2025

Delivered: v0.4.0

Report generation

Description: Currently attrition tables and baseline characteristic tables (Table 1) are provided. Exporting full cohort description in plain text text (generated from PhenEx cohort description) with all used codes (see cohort code lists) and corresponding figures to microsoft word or web viewer.

Timeline: Q2 2025

Web app

Description: Provide a user interface for non Python users. Ability to view and edit all phenotypes in a cohort.

Timeline: MVP Q2 2025

Large Language Model integration

Description: use LLMs to write PhenEx cohort descriptions from plain text cohort descriptions. Planned to feed directly into web app

Timeline: Q2 2025

Enhanced Documentation and Tutorials

Description: Expand our documentation and tutorial offerings to include more use cases and examples.

Timeline: Q1 2025

Community Contributions

Description: Encourage community contributions by planning guided study-a-thon. Bring epidemiologists, researchers, anaylsts and data scientists together for intensive session creating studies from start to finish within a week.

Timeline: Q3 2025
